Tiles and Sanitary Shop Software: Box, Piece and the Project Quote
One item, three units
The supplier bills by the box, the customer asks the price per square foot, and the site returns six loose pieces. If the item has only one unit, two of those three conversations end in a manual correction.
Multi-unit setup lets the same tile carry box, piece and square-foot conversion. Stock stays in the purchase unit; the invoice can sell in the unit the customer understands, and the system keeps the conversion honest.
Project quotations are the real work
A contractor sends a floor plan and asks for tiles, adhesive, grout and sanitary fittings in one quotation. The quote must hold prices long enough to win the job, show alternatives, and convert to an invoice without retyping every line. When the project starts, deliveries often go in phases; the remaining quantity has to stay visible.
Use a quotation with a validity date, then a sales order for the confirmed scope. Deliver what is ready, invoice what is delivered, and keep the balance as committed rather than guessing from a notebook.
Breakage and returns
Tiles break in transit and on site. A return note should take back full boxes and loose pieces at the sold price, and record the breakage separately as damage if the shop is bearing it. Mixing the two hides whether the loss came from the supplier, the transport or the customer.
Contractor pricing
Builders buy repeatedly and expect a trade rate; walk-in customers pay retail. Price tiers per customer keep both honest. Credit is common on projects, so the due must sit on the contractor account with an aging view and a limit the counter can see.
Showroom and godown
Display pieces are not stock. Keep the showroom and godown as separate outlets so a display tile can be sold without pretending the godown has one extra box. Transfers move cost between them without creating sales.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell tiles by piece when stock is in boxes?
Yes, with a multi-unit conversion on the item. Stock remains in the purchase unit and the invoice records the sold unit.
How do I handle breakage?
Record it as a stock adjustment for damage, separate from customer returns, so the cause of the loss stays visible.
Can one project be invoiced in phases?
Yes. Keep the confirmed scope on a sales order, deliver and invoice each phase, and the remaining quantity stays visible.
