Repair Shop Software: Job Cards, Parts and the Device Nobody Collected

The job card is the contract

Every device that enters the shop needs a record: customer, phone, model, serial or IMEI, accessories received, the reported fault and the condition at intake. A photo or a short note about a cracked screen prevents the argument that the damage happened in the shop.

The job card also sets the estimate. The customer approves a range before work starts; if the fault is deeper, the shop calls for approval instead of surprising them at collection.

Parts are stock, labour is service

A screen, battery or charging port moves stock. The repair charge is labour. Mixing them into one line hides both the parts margin and the technician's productivity. If a part is pulled from a donor device, record that device's serial and the part's new status.

Warranty on the repair

A repaired device often carries a short warranty: seven days, thirty days, or the part supplier's term. The warranty should link to the job card and the part, so a return is handled consistently. Without it, every comeback is a negotiation.

Collection and unclaimed devices

Some devices are never collected. A job status of ready-for-collection with the date and the customer's phone makes the follow-up list. After a stated period, the shop can act according to its policy instead of discovering a shelf full of old devices at year-end.

Counter sales and repairs together

Many shops sell accessories alongside repairs. The same invoice can carry a service line and a product line, but stock must move only for the product. A public bill link lets the customer check the charge without a printed copy.

What Zuviq Book covers

Job cards with device and fault details, serial tracking, estimate approval, parts stock, service and item line types, repair warranty, collection status, customer records and a public bill link.

The workshop flow is in the repair and servicing brochure. For device-level tracking, read the mobile shop guide.

Open one old job

Take a device that has been on the shelf for two weeks. The job card should show the fault, the approved estimate, the parts used and the customer contact. If any is missing, the shop is holding the device without a story.

Frequently asked questions

Can I record the device's condition at intake?

Yes. The job card holds a condition note or photo reference, which protects both the shop and the customer.

How do I track a repair warranty?

Link the warranty period to the job card and the part used, so a comeback is handled consistently.

Can a repair and an accessory appear on one bill?

Yes. Use a service line for the repair and an item line for the accessory so stock moves only for the product.
