General Retail Software: The Shop That Sells Everything and Knows Nothing
Start with five questions
What sold today? What is about to finish? Who owes me? What did I pay for the last purchase? Did I make money this month? A retail system earns its place by answering those five without a spreadsheet.
The item list is the foundation
Every product needs a name, a unit, a purchase price and a selling price. Barcode optional for slow movers, essential for fast ones. Categories should match how the owner thinks, not a supplier's catalogue.
Variants matter when size or colour changes the price or the stock. A shirt in three sizes is one product with three variants, not three unrelated items.
Purchases and stock
A purchase bill should increase stock at the landed cost, including transport if the shop treats it that way. Returns to the supplier reduce stock and payable together. A physical count at the end of the month is a check, not the main record.
Price tiers and credit
Regular customers, small resellers and staff may buy at different prices. Price tiers keep the counter consistent. Credit should sit on the customer account with a limit and an aging view; a diary of dues is not a receivable.
Cash is not profit
A busy day can still lose money if the margin is wrong or the owner's drawings are mixed with business cash. Expenses, supplier payments and drawings should be separate. The bank and bKash balance should reconcile with the day's collection.

Answer the five questions
At closing time, try to answer the five questions above from the system alone. Every question that needs a notebook is a gap worth fixing before adding another feature.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need barcodes for every item?
No. Use them for fast-moving items; slow items can be searched by name or code.
Can I sell at different prices to different customers?
Yes. Assign a price tier to the customer and the counter picks it automatically.
How do I know the day's profit?
Sales minus the cost of the items sold, with expenses recorded separately. Cash in the drawer is not profit.
